Afridi Dismisses PCB Chairman Ambitions?

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has forcefully responded to the mounting conjecture on his possible comeback as the next Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In a frank video that went viral on social media, Afridi explained that he had neither ambition nor backroom contacts indicating he would be interested in the PCB Chairman post.

If I visited the PCB and requested them to name me the new Chairman, that would not be appropriate. I neither require a PCB contract either. I want to work at the grassroots level, hence if I ever join it will be for Pakistan and the athletes.

Regarding the continuous participation of his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi on the national team, Shahid Afridi said honestly.

“Having all the contacts I have, if I were such a powerful person behind the scenes, I would have been the PCB chairman. I keep out of these affairs, he remarked.

Emphasising his aim to serve Pakistan cricket based on merit, the all-rounder also distances himself from the internal politics sometimes connected with cricket board selections.

With many records to his name and a strong leadership presence on the pitch, his legacy as one of Pakistan’s most revered cricket players has translated into a major post-retirement influence on cricket debate.

Notably, Afridi was named the temporary chief selector under Najam Sethi’s temporary arrangement late in 2022 before the home series against New Zealand.

He decided not to serve, nevertheless, citing structural problems and the board’s lack of long-term certainty.
