In the match played at National Stadium Karachi, Peshawar Zalmi’s vice-captain Shoaib Malik decided to field first after winning the toss. Batting first, the Gladiators played aggressively and scored 190 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Quetta Gladiators openers gave a great start and formed a partnership of 155 runs, opener Ehsan Ali scored 73 runs and Will Smith played his innings of 97 off 59 balls which included 11 fours and 4 sixes.
Pursuing the target, Peshawar Zalmi made an aggressive start, with opener Yasir Khan scoring 30 off 12 balls. Similarly, middle-order batsman Hussain Talat scored 52 while captain Shoaib Malik played unbeaten innings of 48 runs. Haider Ali scored 19, Tom Cadmore 22, and Rutherford 10 for Peshawar. For Quetta, Muhammad Nawaz took three wickets while James Faulkner and Naseem Shah took one wicket each. It may be recalled that Peshawar Zalmi’s team was not available with captain Wahab Riaz, Kamran Akmal, Arshad Iqbal, and Hazratullah Zazai due to suffering from covid. Similarly, Quetta Gladiators did not have the services of all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Shoaib Malik is leading the team as Peshawar Zalmai captain Wahab Riaz has been knocked out.
