Announced on Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the Match Officials’ Technology (MOT) would be fully implemented for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), set to run from April 11 to May 18.
The cricket board claims that although the flagship league had already adopted elements of the MOT, the upcoming edition will see full-scale adoption, therefore matching the competition with the best global standards in officiating, openness and viewer involvement.
The most notable aspects of the recently adopted MOT include auto-detection of the no balls using ultra-motion cameras, live umpire communication to DRS and innings timers, match recording and real-time multi-angle replays, so improving the viewing experience.
Fans will also be able to real-time track the DRS countdown and innings timings.
Over-rate calculations will be available ball-by–ball for both spectators and teams for the first in the league’s history; umpires will have access to hand-held tablets for both real-time over-rate calculations and also for rapid DRS triggering.
Reacting to the MOT’s full implementation, PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer said it would involve supporters more and preserve justice in every decision.
“HBL PSL has always strives to introduce innovation in the league and after weeks of discussion concerning which innovation to introduce, we can today boldly state that HBL PSL X matches will have complete MOT integration. By doing this, we will maintain justice in all decisions and provide officials, players, and supporters equally more clarity.
Key Features of MOT in PSL X:
- Umpire communication system (on-field and off-field)
- Multiscreen replay viewer
- Auto no-ball detection using ultra-motion cameras
- Real-time DRS and innings timers
- Tablet-based logging for 3rd Umpires
- Instant clip access for Match Referees
