Former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja, has demanded a significant overhaul of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and urged the PCB to replace the present draft method with an auction mechanism for player choosing.
Raja underlined the importance of the PCB to investigate several approaches to draw top foreign players to the league in a Tuesday comment on his YouTube channel.
He thinks the PSL has to change if it is to stay competitive with other big worldwide cricket leagues.
” Since we are up against other leagues, the PSL would be more suited for an auction approach. We must draw in the top players if we are to be the best.
The former PCB chairman advised that even if a complete auction system isn’t feasible right now, the PCB should at least give top-tier players some thought so that franchisees may guarantee major names for their teams.
“My recommendation is that, at least the top players should be chosen through an auction so that the best options are available and franchises can purchase these big names should the PCB cannot go for an auction system for the entire PSL,” he said.
The former cricket player also underlined the need of highlighting local talent since the success of the PSL depends mostly on local players.
He pointed out that the success of the league depends on the performance of home players, which also help it to expand.
” Domestic talent drives leagues. Our local players have to rise and give good performance. During a game, Pakistani hitters and bowlers must score runs, take wickets, and manage pressure. Young athletes have to learn to control pressure at pivotal times,” he said.
Raja ended by asking the PCB to give some thought to moving the PSL to an auction model shortly so guaranteeing the league’s ongoing success and international profile.
