Sri Lanka lost to Namibia by 55 runs | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

In the very first match of the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka lost to Namibia in an upset. In the match played at Kardinia Park in South Geelong, Australia, Namibia scored 163 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. On behalf of Namibia, Jan Frylinck scored 44 while Johannes Jonathan Smit scored 31 runs. For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan Liyanagamage scored 2, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Chamika Karunaratne and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva one each got the wicket.

The Sri Lankan batsmen failed completely in the run chase and the whole team was bundled out for 108 runs. The most runs from Sri Lanka team captain Dasun Shanaka scored 29 runs, Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 20 runs, Dhananjaya de Silva scored 12 runs while Mahesh Thakshana scored 11 runs. No batsman in the team could go into double figures. Bernard Schultz, Ben Shikongo and John Frylink each bagged 2 wickets for Namibia.
