World Snooker Championship | Mark Allen defeated Scott Donaldson
Donaldson equalized but entered a frame-up with 109 runs in the next frame. Also on Monday, Anthony McGill defeated qualifier Liam Highfield 10-7. The Scottish team will play the winner of the match between England’s Jude Trump and Iran’s Hussein Wafai. The winner of Allen vs. Donaldson will face world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan. A 65’s break gave Allen the opening frame of the match but Scotland‘s Donaldson’s next two, 78’s break helped him to a 2-1 lead.
Donaldson looked to extend his lead as he set a 60-yard line in the next, but a 61-run pass from Mark Allen leveled the contest. Donaldson’s 55 and 68 breaks made it 3-2 with 49 players in the world rankings but then the 45’s frame helped 15th seed Allen to see the next line. These two centuries in the last two frames have propelled Allen forward, but his opponent has struggled to make it to the second round for the first time in the event at Sheffield.
