Carlos Alcarez defeated compatriot World No. 3 Rafael Nadal and set the knockout stage. Five-time champion and clay court king Rafael Nadal lost in the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open tennis tournament. 19-year-old Carlos Alcarez of Spain defeated Rafael Nadal.

The first set was won by Carlos 6-2 and the second by Nadal 6-1, but in the decisive set, the young player made it to the semi-finals 6-3. In the second quarterfinal, world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic defeated Poland’s Hubert Harkaz in the street set. In the semi-finals, Djokovic will face Carlos Alcarez.
